Voice Training to Masterfully Lead Your Own Voice
There are countless ways to speak: varying pitch, tone, emphasis —
it’s truly the tone that makes the music. Time and again, the essential question arises:
HOW do I say WHAT, to WHOM, WHEN, right here and now?
Making that decision in seconds requires clarity about the optimal intensity of your speech — and that clarity comes from mastering the right dosage of exhaled air.
Think of it like a fan with different speed settings: level 1, 2, or 3.
When speaking one-on-one, in a comfortable environment with positive content, level 1 suffices. But if there’s more background noise, or if you’re addressing a larger group, you need more power and energy in your voice to assert your opinion, inspire, motivate, or set boundaries — that’s when you shift into a higher gear.
Being able to make these adjustments swiftly, without holding tension in specific parts of your body or squeezing your breath, is a skill that can be developed!
Sounds and Tones Want to Fly
The voice is simply moving air — sound waves transformed from air waves. This air needs to be kept in motion, with varying intensity, consciously exhaled again and again.
Voice Training Tips — super.simple.effective.
To fine-tune your voice…
It starts with self-awareness: notice if you tend to hold your breath in certain situations. If so, here’s a simple fix: just exhale!
Exhaling is the foundation for varying your vocal intensity.
Begin to consciously and playfully switch intensities: exhale faster without tensing your throat, jaw, or chin. Imagine your upper body as a chimney or a stovepipe — keep it open so the smoke (your exhaled air) can flow out freely. It’s your job to proactively manage your breath and release it regularly.
Before you speak, start with a slight audible breath. This brings your vocal cords together by creating a gentle suction, producing a clear sound — exactly what we want!
Learning to “let go of control” feels like releasing pressure and tension — but that’s how air and sound flow freely. It feels and sounds natural and comfortable.
Stay open, stay fluid — it feels great and sounds perfect!
